Building a Website like a House

Domain Registration Length/Leasing the Land

First, Domains are typically registered to you on a yearly basis with a 10 year maximum term. A longer term registration will show everyone you mean business. Once you have selected your domain name there will be nothing for anyone to see there. At first visitors are directed to a parked page.

“A building is not just a place to be but a way to be.”

Web Hosting/Turning on the Power

After you have secured your domain name now you will need web hosting. This is essentially turning the power and utilities on for your new construction. It allows you or a web developer to get started building a website so people have something to see when they visit. Web hosting is really just the storage of your content on another computer. This makes your website ready to display when someone types in your web address. Hosting is usually paid for upfront on a yearly basis or monthly plans are available as well. Which Hosting to Choose

Most applications will run best on a Cpanel/Linux platform unless your current developer has specifically requested a Plesk/Windows platform. If your just getting started with building a website using WordPress, Managed WordPress is a great fit and will also maintain your ongoing updates and 30 days of backups automatically.

Building a Website/Constructing the House

Once you have your domain name and web hosting you will need to decide who is going to build that website. Much like building a house, you could do it yourself with many free applications available on the web or you could hire a professional like me! It really depends on your skill level and the time and energy you want to commit.

Do It Yourself

We do offer “drag-and-drop” style website builders that include the web hosting and the design tool all in one package. If your not the DIY type it would be better to contact me so you can focus on your business!
